Only a few patrons in the restaurant when we arrived as a party of 4. We waited 46 minutes from the time we ordered until we got our food. Two cooks and three waitresses were working. That is way too long for a burger and fries. On a positive note The Waitresses are very friendly and the atmosphere was a cool fifties Diner like theme.
Food and service great but salt and pepper shake a are gross. The ceiling tiles are in dire need of replacing. Air vents are dusty
Good food.. but slow getting orders out... customer service is awesome...
First visit. Food was good and the staff was very nice and knowledgeable of the menu. It wasn't too busy but the staff made sure they were keeping the location clean.
Love the food. Its definitely worth it.
Classic styled diner with great simple food, and good prices
Usually when we go in there everything is spot on today 8-6-2016. We went in sat down at the counter and they took our drink orders and we waited on the drinks waited to give our food order never got our drinks nor did we get to give our food order they we're not that busy the young waitress was not good so we told her don't worry about our stuff and we left cause should not have to wait that long for drinks to arrived and it was at least 15 minutes between ordering drinks before she came back with no drinks in her hands and one other waitress asked us if we need anything and we still didn't get anything
Pimento burger = yes Lawd.
Food is extremely good, but every time we go there it seems the staff is more concerned about talking with friends instead of serving customers. We waited in line for 20 minutes while the employee giggled and talked with friends in a car until we finally decided to go somewhere else. Food is great, but if you don't have the customer service to go with it it's just not really worth it.
This Hwy 55 is a great place to grab a burger and fries when you are tired of tasteless fast food alternatives. The 55 chain has a nice retro theme that is fun but not overdone. I ordered a pimento cheeseburger, it was excellent, and their gravy fries were perfect. The staff was also great, strike that, they were awesome. Not realizing what time it was my partner and I had walked into the restaurant just minutes before closing. Anyone who has ever worked in a restaurant understands the unforgivable sin that we just committed and the kinds of horrible things that happen to people's food during the last half of the witching hour...But the staff did not rush us at all and the food and service were excellent! So thank you guys for feeding a couple of hungry medics who don't keep regular hours and almost never get to sit down and actually taste our food.
Loved this place before. The pass year has went down not as clean service not to good under staff. Good food though
The double with cheese was delicious and huge. Gravy Fries were Awesome! Service was top notch. Highly recommended. Don't forget the Apple pie shake.
Best strawberry shake around town! Tastes like Braum's! That's the only thing I've ordered from here so I can't comment on the food.
I gave a one star because the food is good but the way their manager “perry” treats new employees is disgusting. How do you give an new employee a dirty shirt with grease stains on it and tells his mom that if he really wants to work he can just wash it cause he wasn’t going to order a new shirt just for one person. But before all of that happened this mananger wasn’t working every time the new employee was told to come in for an interview, took about 4 different days, and when he was supposed to start working the manager wasn’t working that day and no one knew a new person was starting that day.So a week later when the new employee was supposed to start working the manager was finally there. That is NOT how a supposed manager treats new employees specially not their mom.
We ordered 3 burgers, fries and onion rings. Fries and onion rings were cold. Burgers were good and hot. We had to ask 3 times for water. Service was horrible. I will give it another shot as I have been here before and had good service. Hopefully it is a one time deal.
Food was great and the service was excellent.
Very polite and the service was great. Food was very good
Top quality food and service. Love their fries and burgers are very tasty. My favorite is their concrete shakes. You can even add all kinds of treats to make it your own. Yummy!
Why 55 🍔 and crispy fries with root beer float and the new staff gave us a wonderful experience today. The manager introduced his staff to us. He's very proud of the hard work and job there doing. Thanks for making our lunch enjoyable. Patricia Chriss
My wife and I used to go here at least once a week. Since the management changed we've stopped coming. The last time we were in we felt uncomfortable. It'll be s long time before we go back. 2 stars only because of the other staff and waitress were nice.
You’ll think this business will know a horrible burger when they see one but obviously not! My burger had more mayo on it than the patty itself, lettuce was in chunks, bun was saturated, the patty was smaller than the bun (photo is already posted)! I’m completely disgusted! If I could give zero stars I would! I don’t blame the waitress but the cook either needs more training or to find another job that doesn’t involve being behind a grill! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!
Ok food. Ok service
Come for the nostalgia, stay for the awesome food. The staff is always the best. I have never had an unpleasant experience here. The burgers are easily better than Ye Ole Fashion Cafe. They have a great assortment of chicken and phillies if burgers isn't really your thin. Bottom line: If you love sharing large shakes, great fries and burgers in a great, fun atmosphere, Hwy 55 is for you.
I love hot dogs and they are hard to find in my area. They were wonderful!Fries really great too! It's a fifties retro place. I had a Coke float! Great service too
Had to wait a long time. Very nice couple after me just got up and left. The floor was grimy and sticky. Waitress was overwhelmed. I won't be returning. Oh yeah, burger was good.
This was my first time trying Hwy 55 and I loved it! The staff is extremely friendly and made me feel welcomed and appreciated. The food tasted delicious and it's right down the road from my work. I will deffinetly recommend my co-workers to come here for lunch. Thanks for a wonderful first time experience.. You have won me over.
Tried the place out for the first time. There was a new cook so it took some time to get our food. No fault of her own though. She was trying. Forgot the chilli on our burgers, and the fried pickles were cooked in old oil. Super greasy. My daughters loved their chicken fingers. Service was just ok. I'd give it another chance.
Great burgers and ice cream, very friendly staff, good value
This is an excellent burger spot but the staff does NOT know that old fashioned burger rolls SHOULD ALWAYS BE STEAMED!!!!!Hwy 55 started as Andy's in NC, serving old fashioned steamed rolls. IT SEEMS THAT THE OWNER, MANAGER NOR EMPLOYEES KNOW THIS AT THE STORE IN NORTH CHARLESTON. I have talked to ALL of them. I even contacted corporate. This was maybe a year ago. I went back about two weeks ago, burger roll came out cold. Amazing. I sent it back. It came back slightly warm/cool.
My wife and kids were excited about trying a new local food spot so we stopped in here. Greeted at the door and ordered immediately. Food came in a decent amount of time and was as ordered. Service took a quick down turn at this point. No refills on drinks or even a stop by the table to see if we needed anything additional.
Mr. Joe is awesome! Great, friendly atmosphere. I really loved my grilled pimento cheese and bacon sandwich. Restrooms were very clean!
My fiance and I have eaten here several times, but this is the last. Much less not being greeted at the door...our waitress flopped menus on table and returned to take our order without saying a word and just stood in front of us. We gave our order and she walked away. Good service is important to me. Both of us agreed, burgers were mediocre, but the buns we're cold and soggy. Our lunch was a big disappointment... I would not recomment, even John Boy & Billy would have frowned.
My chicken tenders where very little and un done and I was real hungry the only reason why they getting 2 stars is because the waitress was very nice
Great burger, fries and hand-dredged onion rings! The fried pickles were served hot and were fantastic!Service was top-notch! Just good, honest food served by good, honest people.
Outstanding American food with a 1950's feel. Highly recommend stopping in for a burger, fries, and a shake. Also a notable friendly staff.
I had a blast there! It was our first time and I’ve always been meaning to go and try the food and it exceeded all expectations! The manager had me and my girlfriend laughing. The cook was hilarious. The burgers and fries... OMG! I was telling my girlfriend that the key to a good burger is tasting the seasoning and the burger had that and more. I wish more people knew about this place because the food is dope. I guess I’ll have to spread the word, which I have no problem doing. Only thing I didn’t like was that, the owner was there and he didn’t really seem personable at all, and he kinda was getting on the manager in front of us. That could’ve been handled in the back of house. Other than that. I loved the food... and oh yeah, the fries made my top 5 fries list!
Classic style cheeseburgers at a good price. Crinkle fries are crispy and fresh. Chicken and shrimp sandwich and platter options are available. Haven't had any treats from here yet, but they do look good! Been here 3 times with coworkers and haven't had a bad experience yet. One cook and one waitress on duty, even during a Friday lunch hour, so they could use a little extra staff on hand.
Great burger for with a great price. The food feels more homemade than any fast food restaurant, with a very casual atmosphere. Onion rings were the best I have had in a long time. 2 burgers, a shake, drink, and order of onion rings for under 20 bucks. Definitely coming back.
Its family freindly and has lots of good character
Food is decent diner food. Service was fair. The reason I gave 1 star was mainly due to how dirty this place is. The floors were filthy. Looked liked they hadn't been swept or mopped in days. The mens restroom was disgusting. Several empty tables had not been bussed. There didn't appear to any management on site, although there was a young man not in uniform standing around the front counter mostly talking on his smart phone. Server never came back around for refills. We had to get up and go to the counter to get a refill. The only thing I can figure is an absentee owner or operator.
Cheap food, a good decor, however a smidge dirty
don't waste your time or money at this establishment. tots over-cooked to the point they were crumbly & falling apart. burgers wouldn't stay together & basically a big pile of mush. on one burger they left off most of the toppings that it was suppose to include. the grilled chicken salad was laughable...barely any iceberg lettuce (mixed greens), was missing the cucumbers & the 'cherry tomatoes' were colorless/tasteless bits of sliced tomatoes. only one server for about 20 people.
We received some coupons for this burger place, which was great because we hadn't realized that it had opened. We have been there twice now and it is our new favorite burger place! The food is fresh, hot, and decently priced. The service has been great both times. Their fries are awesome and the burgers have been excellent. We will be coming here from now on for our burger cravings instead of Five Guys. Plus the quaint diner atmosphere and golden oldies are really cool :)
Love this place in Myrtle Beach was so excited when it came to Charleston. Took the kids at 12pm in a Saturday for the people inside to tel is they where closed and then turn their backs to us.
worst experience ever. we sat there WITHOUT drinks for at least 10 mins. we ordered drinks and food together. got drinks then food 2 mins later food. mind you there was there was our table and another. i work in the food and bev industry and never had service like that. we were only checked on once. had to leave a star to leave review. will NOT go back there.
The last few times I've been here, there are not enough staff. One server at 12:00 doesn't cut it. I've been sitting here for 10 minute and I still only have a menu. It was like this the last time I was here. This place used to rock, not any more!!! Food is good though! This may be my last time coming here.
Cheap eats with good taste . French fries are the best, staff was polite and helped me make a decision on what to eat. Definitely earned a return trip from this guy
Good old fashioned sandwiches and burgers and great shakes
